Highlights

Artwork of Constantin Brancusi

Constantin Brancusi, one of the most influential modern sculptors of the 20th century. The three sculptures, the Silence Table, the Kiss Gate and the Endless Column, are placed on mile-long (1.5 km) east-west axis that runs through the heart of the Tg-jiu city.

Banat Village Museum

It is the only museum with ethnographic profile in Romania that includes the civic center of the village, consisting of City Hall, Church, School, National House (with cultural destination) and bar, in which most of the cultural-educational and scientific activities of a locality are carried out.

Danube Canyon

The Danube Cliff or the Danube Gorge is a geographical region along the northern bank of the Danube, south of Banat. Geographically spectacular, the area is also very important from the point of view of biodiversity, as it contains an important number of nature reserves, currently included in the Iron Gates Natural Park.

Sarmizegetusa Ulpia Traiana

Colonia Ulpia Traiana Augusta Dacica Sarmizegetusa was the capital and the largest city of Roman Dacia, later named Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa after the former Dacian capital, located some 40 km away.

Day 1

On your first day in the morning you’ll be boarding in Tel Aviv and in just 3 hours your destination will be welcoming you. We’ll head to the outskirts of Timisoara, near the forest, to visit the Village Museum, having a reconstruction of an old village from the Banat region. Typical houses, a wooden church, the town hall, a school, and, of course, the pub will tell you the story of all the nations living together in the countryside all over this region.

Day 2

On the second day your first steps in Timisoara will be led by our top local guide, making sure you dive-in quickly in the imperial history and architecture, from the Ottomans to Austrians, to Hungarians, to present-day Romania and to the city which is the European Capital of Culture for 2021. You will understand how different nations shaped Timisoara, the multicultural capital of the region Banat and how they are living peacefully together for centuries. Jews had an important role in changing the city for the better. You will pass by the rich Jewish heritage, palaces and synagogues, and you’ll see the testimonials of Jewish life.

Day 3

The third day will take us to the famous spa-town Baile Herculane after a 3 hours’ drive by bus. There’s a legend that Hercules himself stopped in the valley to bathe and rest. Roman aristocrats built a thermal spa resort and the Austrian Empire rebuilt it. The emperor’s wife herself used to come to this place. After a city tour we’ll relax in one of the modern hotels’ spas.

Day 4

On the fourth day we’ll be enjoying breathtaking views of the Danube, while cruising on Europe’s second longest river, through the dramatic canyon and the Iron Gates Natural Park. You will be amazed for sure imagining Romans were able to cross here 2000 years ago, so the spa can wait until evening.

Day 5

On the fifth day we’ll cross the Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park’s unspoiled nature arriving in Targu Jiu for a city tour and admiring the ensemble of the famous European sculptor Constantin Brancusi: the Endless Column, the Table of Silence and the Gate of the Kiss. We’ll be spending the night here.

Day 6

The sixth day will spoil us with nature’s hidden views in the mountains and a rustic lunch in a typical rural guesthouse. Afterwards we’ll visit the Roman ruins of Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa. We’ll head back to Timisoara, making a stop in Caransebes to visit the neo-gothic style synagogue and remembering that not only Romans were living here for ages.

Day 7

On the seventh day we’re suggesting activities as if you were from Banat – you could be having breakfast and might be walking and drinking coffee in the cozy Union Square, followed by shopping in Iulius Town. The city’s vibe and your mood will decide what you’d prefer. In the afternoon we’ll be spoiling you with a private wine tasting and dinner, in a beautiful landscape close to Timisoara, filled with vineyards (40 minutes by bus).

Day 8

Early morning this day you will just grab your take-away breakfast and hurry back to Ben Gurion Airport. New landscapes, insights and questions rush through your mind. Already planning for your next time around here?
